House mouse problem Cardiff

We have far more call outs for mouse problems than we do rat control.
Of these call outs the majority are for field mice that have adopted a home or business as a nice safe, warm place to live and raise their offspring.

Wood mouse in Cardiff

Field mice are not seen as pests in our gardens or the countryside, however once they enter your property they are considered a pest and can be legally controlled by the use of traps.
In comparison to house mice, field mice (wood mouse) do not carry the same level of health risk in regard to the transfer of diseases and bacteria, because they don’t invade the food larder in the same way.
Their main interest is nuts and seeds which they tend to accumulate and store.
House mice on the other hand are far more likely to invade your food stores and will have a go at pretty much everything.

All mice have two very bad habits and so require the use of mouse control to protect property and lives.

The first is the fact that they constantly wee, and leave a trail of urine wherever they go, be it behind your kitchen cupboard, under the floors, in the attic, or worst of all on your kitchen counter top.
They also leave behind between 60 and 80 small droppings a day.

The other bad habit that all mice and rodents have is their need to gnaw. The damage they can cause as a result of this gnawing is quite surprising. Examples of mouse, rat and squirrel gnawing can be found on wooden floor boards, behind the kitchen cupboards, and most dangerously on electrical cables.

light cables in attic chewed by mice Cardiff

The loss of the insulation protection on wires as a result of rodent gnawing can lead to power shorts and a possible fire as a result of either an electrical short or increase in heat generation, which in turn can lead to the possibility of fire. Every year mice are contributed to the cause of fire.

On first impression you may feel that mice in the garage are of no concern, but if the garage is attached to the main house and has an electrical supply the consequences can be very fatal.

If you suspect that you have a mouse control problem within the vicinity of any power cables then it is advisable to get rid of the mice.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the cables running thru the loft supplying power to the lights, or a cable to the shower, or if the mice are in the kitchen behind the cupboards along with the cables for the lighting and electrical sockets, or in the utility room behind the freezer or washing machine, or behind the electric cooker it should be of sufficient concern to have the mice removed.

If there is reason to believe that the mice have been present for some time it may be wise to have an electrician carry out a resistance and insulation test on the electrical system.
